June 10, 2011 - Construction Status Update

Picture
We had another productive week onsite at the Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project.  The exterior brick was completed this week by the Bricklayers Local 21 with help from the Laborers Union Local 25.  With materials supplied by Acino Decorating & Glidden Professionals, Art Rubel and the Painters District Council #14 were able to prime and paint the home this past week.  West Custom Hardwood, in conjunction with the Carpenters Union Local 1185, delivered the hardwood flooring material onsite which will be ready for installation next week.  The Local 21 Marble Setters completed the installation of the marble fireplace surround with materials donated by POMA Marble, Inc.

Mr. Davids Flooring International delivered the ceramic tile, grout & mortar materials on Monday morning so that the Tile Setters Union Local 21 could finish up the ceramic installation this week.  The carpenters from Lenny Szarek, Inc. installed the cabinets, doors, trim & railings supplied by Merillat Cabinets, Northwest Millwork, and Amron Stair Works respectively.

Cerniglia Underground completed the yard drain installation earlier this week.  We’d like to extend our thanks to Built Best Fence Co. for the security fence that has been around the project since the beginning.  We appreciate the secure site throughout the construction and all the continued support from the Hillside Fire Department and Hillside Police Department.

Next week Plote Construction will be installing the concrete driveway, sidewalk & patio, and final grading the yard.  An American Flag Pole, as donated by Richard McFarlin & Family, will be installed at the end of next week.  The landscaping, as donated by Countryside Industries & Evergreen Landscaping will begin next weekend.  Waukegan Roofing, EQ Sheet Metal and Peterson Aluminum will be finishing the soffit, fascia and gutters late next week as well.  On the inside, we’re ready for final electrical, mechanical, plumbing and sprinkler trim next week.

We are going to have some banners onsite during the week of June 20th and we’d like for everyone who has worked on the project to sign the banners in honor of your hard work.  Please pass this onto any of your workers & feel free to stop by the site beginning June 20th.

We are down to the final two (2) full weeks of the project beginning on Monday.  It’s of the utmost importance that we are substantially complete by Friday - June 24th.  The turnover and dedication ceremony is going to be on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 10 AM.

If there are any questions about the scheduling, please contact Randy Imhoff directly on his cell phone at (847) 417-9873 to discuss

This week we were able to have the doors and windows installed as supplied by Pella.  The rough mechanicals have been active this week including the Fire Protection system.

Last week was very productive thanks to a tremendous effort by all involved, including Mother Nature.  As you will see in the pictures located within the Construction tab, the Lopez Residence is starting to take shape.  We would like to extend our thanks to the carpenters of Lenny Szarek Carpentry for getting the house framed with lumber from Woodstock Lumber, Accurate Housing Systems for supplying the roof trusses, and Waukegan Roofing, who brought out a huge group of workers to shingle the house in record time with materials supplied by ABC Supply Co.

Last Friday was sure a fantastic site as Admiral HVAC, R. Carrozza Plumbing, Liberty Fire Protection and LE Tech Electrical met onsite to go over the rough installation plans so this work can be completed by the end of next week, ready for insulation and drywall before Memorial Day.

All involved on the project should feel proud about what we have all accomplished thus far, but we need to continue to work together so we can stay on schedule and finish this wonderful project.  It's sure nice to see what a group of professionals can accomplish in such a short amount of time.

Once again, thank you for all your hard work in helping make this project a reality.

November 2010 Fundraiser

The Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project was the beneficiary of a successful fundraiser on the evening of  Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at the Village of Hillside.  Through the efforts of the local residents, businesses, organizations, & union groups, we were able to raise money towards building this Home for Mr. Sergio Lopez and his family.

Spring 2010 Update

Picture
Proposed Lopez Residence

The Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project is about to become a reality!  Through the generosity of the
Plote Companies, the Village of Hillside and many others, the construction of a single family home for disabled Army Veteran Sergio Lopez, his wife Maria and his young daughters, Sasha and Sophia, will commence in the upcoming months.  Mr. Lopez, 27, served two tours of duty in Iraq and was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED, commonly known as a roadside bomb) in January 2006.  The explosion resulted in Sergio losing both of his legs below the knee.  He and his young family were chosen by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to be the recipients of this new specially adaptive home in Hillside, IL.

A non-profit organization, titled the Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project, has been established to spearhead this wonderful endeavor and gather donations.  The goal is to have the project complete in 2010!  The generous donations of labor and materials keep flowing in and we are certainly thankful for everyone’s support of the project thus far.  Currently the organization is seeking monetary donations, in addition to labor and material donations for all aspects of residential home construction, including, but certainly not limited to the following:

Concrete Labor, Countertops, Doors & Hardware, Drywall, Fencing, Flooring, Light Fixtures, Lumber, Painting (finish coat), Plumbing, Siding, Trim Material & Labor

We all truly have an opportunity to lead by example with this project.  Ideally, other organizations and groups will follow suit on giving back to their fellow Americans who have given so much to protect our freedom!

For further information about the Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project please contact Adam Neisendorf of the Plote Companies at (847) 428-1000 ext. 228 or John Flood of the Village of Hillside at (708) 202-4324.
